Material & care

Everything here is made by hand, in small batches, by rural women artisans. Which means each piece is a little bit its own — and that it likes to be looked after the way handmade things do.

What our things are made of

Silk scrunchie — Wildpetal, in mulberry satin silk

100% mulberry satin silk, the weave called charmeuse. Satin is a weave, not a material; most satin scrunchies are polyester. Ours is spun by silkworms. Silk is a protein fibre, like hair, so it slides instead of gripping — fewer strands snap, less frizz by evening. The silk fabric was lab-tested in September 2026 by the Textiles Committee (Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India): no banned azo dyes, no detectable formaldehyde, a near-neutral pH of 7.31, and colour that holds against sweat and rubbing. That's why we call it skin-friendly. You can read both reports, and what each result means, on our Lab reports page.

This is Wildpetal Vol. 03, and it replaces the earlier polyester Wildpetal: real mulberry silk, a better elastic, and lab-tested dyes.

The Essentials — Candy Pop and Candy Dot

Plain 100% mulberry silk charmeuse — the same silk as Wildpetal, in other colours. Candy Pop is the big, puffy one; Candy Dot is the thin one, for braid ends and low ponies. Both come in Antique White or Hot Pink.

Scrunchies — Rainfern and Cloudy

Rainfern is polyester — a teal-green check — edged in cotton lace. Cloudy is a cotton-polyester blend: white chikankari, the embroidery Lucknow is famous for. We source Cloudy's chikankari cloth, and our artisans make it into Cloudy by hand, so no two gather quite the same way. Both sit on a wide, soft elastic.

Crochet headband — Mellow

Soft acrylic wool yarn, crocheted loop by loop, with ties worked straight out of the band's ends — no join, nothing glued on. The yarn carries OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification, which means it has been tested for harmful substances. It is a made fibre, not a grown one; we would rather say so than let you find out.

The round — Mushbloom

A single round of mulberry satin silk, the same silk as Wildpetal in another colour, gathered into a ruffle, stitched closed along one continuous curve and piped by hand around the edge. The piping and the soft tie through the centre are silk too. No elastic anywhere in it. How the silk tested.

Washing, and the rest of it

  • Hand wash in cool water with a mild soap. No soaking, no wringing.
  • Press the water out in a towel, then reshape while it is still damp — petals, band or round.
  • Dry flat, in the shade. Sun fades silk, and hanging pulls a crochet band out of shape.
  • No bleach, no tumble dryer. Iron only if you must, on low, and never straight onto the lace.
  • If a stitch lifts or a petal gets sleepy, ease it back with a pin or a little steam rather than cutting it.
  • Store it flat or loose in its pouch — not stretched over a doorknob for a year.

The elastic, when it tires

For orders delivered in India, every Moosi piece with elastic in it has our elastic promise: when the elastic gives up, we fit a new one, free, for as long as the piece exists. The Essentials get theirs within 180 days of the day we ship them. Read the promise, terms and all.

The pouch

Every piece travels in a paper Moosi pouch. Keep it, gift it, regift it; the pouch doesn't mind.
